1. Pre-existing Conditions & Accidents

This is the most important limit for insurance coverage:

  • Definition: There is no insurance coverage for illnesses or accidents that already existed at the start of insurance coverage, as well as for treatments that were started or already medically advised before the contract was concluded.
  • Waiting Period Rule: Costs for illnesses or complaints that occur within the agreed waiting periods are also not covered.

2. Genetic, Congenital & Hereditary Diseases

Dalma excludes costs that are directly or indirectly the result of anomalies, ailments, or malformations that are congenital or hereditary.

  • Dogs: Brachycephalic syndrome (respiratory problems in short-headed breeds), Dachshund paralysis (herniated disc), epilepsy, cryptorchidism (undescended testicles), umbilical hernia, and testicular ectopia.
  • Cats: Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and brachycephalic syndrome.
  • General: Congenital diseases of the palate or eyes (e.g., distichiasis) as well as dental anomalies such as persistent deciduous teeth.
  • Exception: Hip and elbow dysplasia are insured despite their often hereditary nature, provided the specific waiting period of 12 months has been observed.

3. Non-medical & Aesthetic Procedures

  • Aesthetics: Purely cosmetic surgical procedures, in particular the docking of ears or tails, are excluded.
  • Contraception: Costs for contraception and sterilizations without medical necessity are not part of the basic coverage (coverage only possible via the preventive budget).
  • Care: Costs for care products, lotions, shampoos, or toothpastes are excluded.

4. Preventable Diseases & Risk Scenarios

  • Vaccination Protection: Diseases that could have been avoided through seamless vaccination protection (according to StiKo Vet) (e.g., rabies, distemper, parvovirus, feline panleukopenia) are only insured if the recommended vaccination protection existed at the time of the illness.
  • Special Activities: Costs arising from participation in hunts, organized fights, races, or sports competitions are not covered.
  • Force Majeure: Damage caused by war, riots, natural disasters, or nuclear energy is excluded from coverage.
