Are vaccinations included in dog health insurance?
Regular vaccinations are part of the basic care of every dog and protect against serious diseases. But does Dalma Dog Health Insurance cover vaccinations?
The answer: Yes - specifically within the framework of the Prevention Budget.
Animal health insurance policies usually only apply to illnesses or accidents - unlike human health insurance, which also includes routine services. The Prevention Budget is therefore a special additional benefit available to you in the Health Insurance tariff. It allows you not only to be covered in case of illness but also to get preventive measures like vaccinations, tartar removal, or deworming reimbursed on a pro-rata basis. Many do not know that a classic health insurance for animals does not cover such costs - the Prevention Budget is therefore a valuable addition that goes beyond pure insurance coverage.
The budget is available starting from a selected annual maximum benefit of at least €1,500 and can amount to either €70 or €100 per year. This way, you can secure your dog's health in the long term without having to bear high veterinary costs for routine services yourself.
Which vaccinations are important for dogs in Germany?
According to the Standing Committee on Vaccination in Veterinary Medicine (StIKo Vet) at the Friedrich Loeffler Institute, there are vaccinations that should under no circumstances be neglected for dogs (StIKo Vet Vaccination Recommendations for Dogs (FLI)).
Every animal should be protected against this disease at all times (Core vaccines).
- Distemper
- Leptospirosis
- Parvovirus
Furthermore, vaccinations are recommended under certain conditions (depending on housing, age) (Non-Core vaccines):
- Bordetella infection
- Hepatitis contagiosa canis
- Parainfluenza
- Rabies
Important: Dalma only covers treatment costs for specific diseases if complete and current vaccination protection exists according to the StIKo Vet recommendation. If vaccination protection is not gapless and the illness could have been prevented by a recommended vaccination, the insurance will not cover the costs.
How much does a vaccination for dogs cost?
The costs for a vaccination for a dog in Germany depend on several factors, including the type of vaccination, the location of the veterinary practice, and the number of vaccines per appointment. Billing is based on the Fee Schedule for Veterinarians (GOT), which specifies a fee framework. Depending on the effort, a vaccination can be charged at the single, double, or in exceptional cases up to the quadruple GOT rate. Additionally, costs for the general examination and the vaccine usually apply. For basic immunization, you must therefore usually expect about €50 to €80 per vaccination; booster vaccinations are often slightly cheaper.
